Oximetry @ Home scheme

Mr Jefferies, one of the first patients receiving his Oxi@Home pulse oximeter given by our Advanced Clinical Practitioner.

The Alliance are pleased to be supporting the Oximetry @ Home Service through the COVID Hot Hub.

The Oximetry at Home Service is to provide patients that are eligible with pulse oximetry equipment and instructions to support the aim of capturing silent hypoxic patients early to reduce mortality rates and ensure timely hospital admission.

Through the use of a pulse oximeter, a small non-invasive device that clips on a finger, patients can monitor and report their oxygen levels to enable early warning of deterioration and rapid intervention and treatment.

The aim is to focus on those at the greatest clinical risk who have been diagnosed with COVID or display COVID symptoms, and to monitor to detect ‘silent hypoxia’ at an early stage where the intervention will reduce mortality and may reduce the risk of ‘long COVID’.

It provides an opportunity to improve the safety and experience for patients whilst better managing acute capacity.
